Halyard Shackle Knot

This simple Halyard Shackle Knot tightens on itself creating a round end that ensures the Halyard does not get stuck in mast sheave or other pulleys in a cascade system under load.

Once the halyard shackle knot has been used under load it will be nearly impossible to undo the knot, the only option you will have is to cut the rope if you need to undo the knot.

This halyard shacke knot is a great knot to use when you are not in a position to splice as it is quick and easy to tie and will not come undone easily. If you want to look at some splicing option scroll down to the bottom off this post to learn more.

If you have the time and the tools it is always better to splice you shackles to your sheets or halyards. The best way to do this is with a brummel splice. The are super easy to do on modern single braid rope.
