Stronger Soft Shackle MK II

The simplest and strongest soft shackle can be created with two eye splices and one overhand knot, giving you are shackle which has 230% breaking strain of a single length of the rope.

This version of the stronger soft shackle gets the four widths of rope at the neck of the shackle by pulling the tail of the eye splices far enough through to compete an overhand knot with the tail finishing further up the main part of the shackle. The four widths of rope then bulk up the overhand knot, locking it with the splices.

The major advantage of this version of a stronger soft shackle is it avoids tying a complicated and time consuming button knot. This is the main reason why this is now our preferred soft shackle when you are looking for the additional breaking strain which you get by having four lengths of rope at the join of the shackle.

The disadvantage of this shackle is it does use slightly more rope than stronger soft shackles which are finished with a button knot. We see this as a small price to pay for the simplicity of this shackle and how quick it is to create. Hit the play button below to create your shackle in minutes.

If you would like a more detailed demonstrations of the the individual components which make up this soft shackle you can watch the speciffic videos for both the eye splice and overhand knot below.

Hopefully you agree this is the simplest and most efficient method of creating a soft shackle with 230% breaking strain of the base rope that you are using.
